(2024). Determining the birth year of Shri Vallabhacharya Ji Mahaprabhu. Retrieved from https://www.academia.edu/121342318 Abstract This academic paper systematically refutes the erroneous claims and misinformation disseminated by Karsandas Mulji in his editorial article published in his own 'Satya Prakash' on October 21st, 1860. Umang Goswami in this paper proves that Shri Vallabhacharya took birth centuries well before the conclusion of the first five-thoushand years of the Kali Yuga, in direct contradiction to the claims asserted by Karsandas Mulji, who had perhaps either erroneously concluded so or out of his malicious intentions sought to undermine the authority and legitimacy of Sanatana Dharma along with its influential sampradayas and Hindu Dharma Leaders. In an editorial article titled "The Primitive Religion of The Hindus and The Present Heterodox Opinions" 1 authored by Mr Karsandas Mulji, he claimed that according to the Sanatan Hindu Dharma scriptures, all sects arising after the completion of the first five-thoushand years of Kali Yuga would be considered heterodox. Hence, he asserted that the Sect of Vallabhacharya Mahaprabhu must also be classified as such. To quote exactly what he said in his article, “According to the Hindu Shastras 5,000 years have now passed away since the commencement of the Kaliyug. From the Hindu Shastras themselves it is demonstrated that during this period of 5,000 years as many new persuasions and religious systems as have arisen the Hindus, should all be considered spurious heresies. … since this event 381 years have elapsed to this day, and since the beginning of the Kaliyug 5,000 years have passed. The sect of Valabhacharya then originated within the Kaliyug itself … therefore according to the declarations of the Hindu Shastras they must be heterodox.” 2 A cursory reading of his claims reveals that he lacked knowledge of Indian history, theology, and social studies, and was also unfamiliar with the Hindu calendar system. The notion that each and every sect arising after the first five-thoushand years of Kali Yuga must be declared heterodox is entirely baseless and contradicts the doctrines of Sanatana Dharma. He hasn’t quoted or cited any particular verse from Hindu Shastras nor named any particular Shastra based on which he has been making false allegations. The very opening of his article says “In the Purans and other Shastras of the Hindus” basing all of his false allegatioins on the Hindu Shastras which he has himself confessed to have never read them; forget about systematically learning them. Interestingly, on the day of publication, October 21st, 1860, it was V.S. 1917 which corresponds to 4961 Kali Samvat. As Mulji himslef noted 381 years have passed since Vallabhacharya Mahaprabhu’s birth, so 1 Official Translation as published in (Report of the Maharaj Libel Case, 1862, pp. 1-3) 2 (Report of the Maharaj Libel Case, 1862, p. 1)
