CHUDORI Arham Paesani 1 , Sumiman Udu², dan La Yani Konisi³ 123 Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia Fakultas Keguruan Dan Ilmu Pendidikan Unversitas Halu Oleo Kampus Bumi Tridharma Andounohu, Kendari 93232 Pos-el: arhampaesani28@gmail.com Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan eksistensi tokoh utama yang terdapat dalam novel Laut Bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan ialah penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut (1) nasib sebagai eksistensi tokoh utama dialami Laut pada kesadaran dan penerimaannya terhadap kondisi keluarganya yang serba sederhana, tetapi di sisi lain ia menolak keadaannya yang harus merasakan zaman Orde Baru; (2) kematian sebagai eksistensi tokoh utama dialami Laut ketika menyadari bahwa kematian sebagai sesuatu kepastian yang datang tanpa bisa diprediksi olehnya, sehingga ia kemudian sampai juga pada tersingkapnya transendensi sebagai puncak dalam bereksistensi; (3) penderitaan sebagai eksistensi tokoh utama dialami Laut ketika menyadari arti penderitaannya itu sebagai konsekuensi yang harus ia hadapi karena ia telah memilih jalan yang terjal yaitu sebagai musuh pemerintah; (4) perjuangan sebagai eksistensi tokoh utama dialami Laut atas kegigihan dan rasa pantang menyerah dalam mempertahankan tujuannya untuk membebaskan Indonesia dari pemerintahan yang otoriter; (5) kesalahan sebagai eksistensi tokoh utama dialami Laut atas kesadaran dan pengakuannya terhadap kesalahan yang berujung pada sebuah penyesalan. Kata Kunci: Eksistensi; tokoh dan penokohan; laut bercerita Abstract This research aimed at describing the existence of the main character in Laut Bercerita novel by Leila S. Chudori. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research design which employed library research. The data of this research was Laut Bercerita novel by Leila S. Chudori. The results of this research reveal that (1) Laut has experienced the fate of being the main character in his awareness and acceptance of his family's humble conditions, on the other hand, he rejects his condition which must have experienced the Orde Baru era; (2) death as the main character's existence is experienced by Laut when he realizes that death is a certainty that comes unpredictably by him, so that he arrives at the revelation of transcendence as the pinnacle of existence; (3) the suffering as the existence of the main character is experienced by Laut when he realizes the meaning of his suffering as a consequence that he must face because he has chosen a steep path, which is as an enemy of the government; (4) the struggle as the existence of the main character experienced by Laut over his persistence and feeling of never giving up in defending his goal of liberating Indonesia from authoritarian rule; (5) the mistake as the existence of the main character is experienced by Laut due to his awareness and admission of mistakes which lead to regret.
