1 A dramaturgy of digital sound: Towards an aesthetic approach Caroline Wilkins, Independent Composer, Performer, Researcher. Abstract This article examines the theatrical use of the digital voice and hyper-instruments in a sound-led interdisciplinary performance, taking as its basis a work that has emerged from a practice-based research project, Zaum: Beyond Mind for voice, instruments, live/interactive electronics, film, choreography and lighting, a collaboration between myself and electronics composer Oded Ben- Tal (Kingston University). It will examine how digital audio technology has become a fundamental element in this genre, both in creating virtual sound-characters and in determining augmented perceptions of time-space, thus extending the aural and visual parameters of events happening onstage.
