1 Should Greenland Become a State? A Study in Artificial Intelligence Using DeepSeek Robert W. McGee Fayetteville State University WORKING PAPER February 6, 2025 ABSTRACT Using artificial intelligence to perform a variety of tasks has become increasingly popular in recent years. The latest tool (as of this writing) is DeepSeek, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence assistant that can perform a wide range of tasks. The present study asked DeepSeek to compile a list of pros and cons from both the U.S. and Greenland perspectives on whether allowing Greenland to become the fifty-first U.S. state would be a good idea. The study speculated that, if admitted to the United States as a new state, its residents would probably vote democratic, in which case the democrats would likely add two senators and one House member to their membership in Congress. The present study is part of a larger study that investigates the possible applications of DeepSeek in a number of different areas. A partial list is included at the end of this study. The view of both U.S. and Greenland citizens are explored. THE STUDY The results of the study are reported below.
