D., Università di Roma «Tor Vergata» ermanno.castano@gmail.com AbstractThe article proposes a reading of Gorgio Agamben’s La voce umana(The Human Voice, 2023) in the context of the development of his philosophy of language, and focuses in particular on the consequences of his theory of the «voice» for his definition of human nature. Agamben establishes an inextricable link between human voice and human nature, but his theory of the voice as what must be (inclusively) excluded in order for signifying speech (logos) to emerge also condemns the definition of human nature to an infinite deferral. Since a «true» human voice will emerge only when the division between phonèand logos is overcome, so only this overcoming will allow for a«authentic» definition of human nature. Particular attention is paid to the fact that this theory frames the human voice, and hance human beings, as an exception to an allegedly uniform animality, and thus upholds – perhaps unwillingly – a form of human exceptionalism. Introduzione In Experimentum linguae, la prefazione a Infanzia e storia scritta per la traduzione francese del 1989 e aggiunta anche alla riedizione italiana del 2001, Agamben scrive che Infanzia e storia era il proemio di un’opera rimasta «ostinatamente» non scritta di cui rimaneva solo qualche appunto, e che si sarebbe dovuta intitolare La voce umana,oppure Etica, ovvero della voce (Agamben 2001: vii). Nel 2023, a più di trent’anni di distanza, Agamben pubblicherà effettivamente un libro con questo titolo, che riprende punto per punto le problematiche che il filosofo aveva elencato in Experimentum linguae (Agamben 2001: vii- viii, xii-xiii), mostrando come la questione del linguaggio, e in particolare quella della voce 1 , sia rimasta il motivumprincipale verso cui il suo pensiero si è sempre orientato, al di là delle «svolte» che lo hanno portato in diverse direzioni e a occuparsi di altri temi.
