ABSTRACT The research paper analyses American pop music artist, Taylor Swift’s original song-The Man’s music video, featured in her 2019 album: Lover, that depicts humorously on the ‘double standards’ set in the society, followed by patriarchal stereotypes and objectification of women as ‘sex’ objects. The music video was directed by Taylor Swift herself, making her directorial debut, with the video releasing on YouTube on February 27, 2020. It has Taylor Swift playing the role of a man by the name of ‘Tyler Swift’, who is portrayed as a rich, and successful white man, being rude and obnoxious to people around him, but being appreciated by all, including women, for doing the bare minimum. Overall, the song, accompanied by the music video was well-received among the critics, and listeners alike for its hard-hitting social message, topping the Billboard Charts across several countries as well. Therefore, the researcher adopts multimodal discourse analysis along with visual semiotics for thoroughly analysing the music video and its hidden meanings on feminism and equality.
