The authors dwell upon the history of the department and its key trends of research, which back in the 1990s were delineated by its founder, Prof. Roksolana Zorivchak. The article goes on to elucidate three lines of developments, namely scholarly activity, projects and research initiatives and students’ research and activism. A special focus is on the scholarly and academic initiatives of the Department at the war period.
