Abstract Crime has been a fundamental problem ever as the dawn of human civilization and man’s endeavours to struggle with this problem have only moderately succeeded. After the inception, Bangladesh has been facing the problems of crime, criminality and dishonesty with its diversified forms. Crime in Bangladesh is at hand in diverse forms such as Trafficking Money Extortion, contact killing, Fraud, Human Trafficking, Robbery, corruption, Black-marketing, Political Violence, terrorism etc. This study is an endeavour to represent the inclusive and complete chronological scrutiny of crime in present-day Bangladesh with indications to crime inclination and its allied grounds. In addition, the study stated mainly the universal crimes are the economic crimes; conversely, the tendency of non-economic crimes particularly political crime is shocking. To diminish crime in Bangladesh the key motivators are akin to political patronage, poverty, unemployment, broken home, initiation by friends and lack of knowledge must be come out. Further, a variety of effectual appraises together with effective laws and policy, appropriate justice system, police reform, public consciousness, must be guaranteed. This study has been conducted mostly based on primary data. Secondary data also used for comparison to other developed countries by reviewing official publications, both national and international, on diverse aspects of crime of some developed countries, Published and unpublished research papers, working papers, seminar and conference proceedings, online resources have also been used. This article analyses the effectiveness of traditional law and justice in Bangladesh in different scale & socio-political context as well as comparison to other developed countries to minimize the gap through initiate various steps and policies. Therefore, a general overview of trends and practice of criminal behaviour is provided which is followed by historical evolution of crime and criminality in the British and Pakistani rule over Bangladesh. INTRODUCTION Crime has been a serious problem ever since the dawn of human civilization and man’s efforts to fight with this predicament has only somewhat achievement. Crimes necessitate be defining and classifying at first. According to the outlook, crimes may be serious and light, the character may vary from time to time and country. Generally, crimes are classified into two categories those related to human body and those related to assets.
