The aim of this study is to reveal the level of perceptions of male and female students about finding topic and their sense of factors of shape according to topics of three different poem’s type. The sample of this study consists of 12, 13 and 14th grade students. In this work, it has been found out that students’ level changed according to gender and age on the topic of finding the theme of poem according to topics that they have learned and there was no difference in finding features that belongs to shape of poem. Students have difficulty in finding theme. Moreover, their perceptions differ among their ages and according to emotions in the poem. This result underlines that students are more successful in poems that they often face and poems increase students’ perception level in parallel with their emotional development. Öz Şiir, öğrencilerin anlamakta zorlandığı öğretmenlerin de uzak durduğu bir edebî tür gibi görünse de doğru çalışmalarla ve yeterince zaman ayrılarak öğrenciye kazandırılması gereken bir türdür. Bu çalışmanın amacı konularına göre farklı üç şiir türüne göre kız ve erkek öğrencilerin tema bulma ve şekle ait unsurları algılama düzeylerini ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın örneklem grubu 12, 13 ve 14 yaş grubundan seçilen öğrencilerden oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada işlediği konulara göre şiirlerin temasını bulmakta öğrenci seviyelerinin cinsiyete ve yaşa göre değiştiği, şiirin şekle ait unsurlarını tespit etmekte bir farklılık olmadığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Öğrenciler temayı bulmakta zorlanmakla beraber yaş seviyeleri ve şiirde işlenen duygulara göre algıları değişkenlik göstermektedir. Bu durum öğrencinin sık karşılaştığı şiir gruplarında daha başarılı olduğunun ayrıca şiir çalışmalarının öğrencide duygusal gelişimle paralel olarak algı seviyesini de yükselttiğinin altını çizmektedir.
