On the other hand, there is a loss of place in historical city centers that need renewal due to the influence of globalization and capitalism. In this sense, it is significant to preserve the sense of place in historical city centers. This study aims to reveal the relationship between the environmental characteristics of the place in Hacıbayram Square, and place attachment, place dependence and place identity, which are used to measure the sense of place, in line with user needs. Within the scope of the method, in-depth interviews was conducted. With this method, the extent to which the field of study is a "quality place", how the renewal process affects the sense of place on the users, which variables that affect the sense of place on the users come to the fore is revealed in line with the user needs. As a result, Hacıbayram Square has turned into a place that is consumed quickly, not everyone can use it democratically, the traditional fabric is differentiated, values related to cultural life change, long-term uses do not occur, and meaningful social relations cannot be established. On the other hand, the religious qualities of the place, and positive feelings towards the place strengthen the place attachment, and sufficient usage areas, ease of access, mixed use of the place strengthen the place dependence. It has been determined that users' memories of the place, the high historical, symbolic and universal value of the place and ceremonial actions positively affect the place identity. According to these results, location-related suggestions were presented to help users embrace the place. Keywords: Urban renewal, sense of place, environmental attributes, public space. ÖZ Tarihi kent merkezleri kentli için ticari, toplumsal ve kültürel imgeleriyle bir kamusal alan işlevi gören yerlerdir. Diğer yönden, küreselleşme ve kapitalizmin etkisiyle yenilenme ihtiyacı duyan tarihi kent merkezlerinde yer kaybının meydana gelmesi söz konusudur. Bu anlamda, tarihi kent merkezlerinde yer duygusunun korunması önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Hacıbayram Meydanı ve çevresinde yerin sahip olduğu çevresel özelliklerin, yer duygusunun ölçülmesinde kullanılan yer bağlılığı, yer bağımlılığı ve yer kimliği ile ilişkisini kullanıcı ihtiyaçlarına yönelik olarak ortaya koymaktır. Yöntem kapsamında, derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Bu yöntem ile çalışma alanının ne derece “kaliteli bir yer” olduğu, yenileme sürecinin kullanıcılar üzerindeki yer duygusunu ne yönde etkilediği, kullanıcılar üzerinde yer duygusunu etkileyen hangi değişkenlerin ön plana çıktığı kullanıcı ihtiyaçları doğrultusunda ortaya konmuştur. Sonuç olarak, Hacıbayram Meydanı’nın çabuk tüketilen, herkesin demokratik olarak kullanamadığı, geleneksel dokunun ve kültürel yaşama ilişkin değerlerin değiştiği, uzun süreli kullanımların oluşmadığı, anlamlı sosyal ilişkilerin kurulamadığı bir yere dönüştüğü görülmüştür. Diğer yönden, yerin sahip olduğu dini niteliklerin, yere karşı duyulan olumlu hislerin yer bağlılığını güçlendirdiği, kullanım alanlarının yeterli olmasının, erişimin kolay olmasının, yerin karma bir kullanıma sahip olmasının yer bağımlılığını artırdığı, kullanıcıların yere ilişkin anılarının, yerin tarihi, sembolik ve evrensel değerinin yüksek olmasının ve törensel eylemlerin yer kimliğini olumlu yönden etkilediği tespit edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlara göre, kullanıcıların yeri sahiplenmesine yardımcı olmak için yere yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur. Anahtar Kelimeler: Kentsel yenileme, yer duygusu, çevresel özellikler, kamusal mekân.
