Applicants are expected to have an outstanding undergraduate degree—typically first-class or upper second-class—or equivalent GPA (around 3.7–4.0/4.0). A Master’s degree is preferred but not always mandatory. For example, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) admits exceptional students directly from the bachelor’s level if they demonstrate strong research ability and quantitative excellence mit.edu.
