MILITES MAGISTRATUSQUE A NEW CURSE TABLET FROM SAVARIA BY ANDREA BARTA Abstract: A curse tablet was recently discovered on the site of the Iseum in Savaria. This paper presents what is now legible on the surface of the lamella and attempts to define its features. Keywords: curse tablet, Savaria, Pannonia, execrating Roman power. In 2009 a small, seven times folded lead sheet was discovered in Savaria, the religional, cultic center of Pannonia Superior. It was found in a very early stratum of the Iseum 1 , on the north of the later 2nd period podium temple, char- acterized by a loam soil mixed up with daub and coal. The tablet came to light together with a Vespasian as, with a fragmentary bronze panther statuette, with fragments of a bronze tweezer and of a bronze needle. On the evidence of these founds, this layer can be dated to the early industrial period of this area, i.e. the end of the 1st century. As the layer is closed, it can be excluded that the tablet got there at a later time.
