1 Bu Lies, Competent Female Entrepreneur: A Biographic Study of Female Leadership in Developing Family Business 1 Trias Setiawati 2 and Heru Saputra 3 This title of this research was Bu Lies competent female entrepreneur: A biographic study of female leadership in developing family business in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study aims were (1) to understand the characteristics of female leadership style in Bu Lies Gudeg‟s family business, (2) to explore how the way Bu Lies develop this family business, (3) to understand the gender inequity that be met in developing her family business. This research used qualitative approach, a biography study. The research method was in- depth interview and field observation. The resource person in this study was founder and owner while she is a leader of Economic Department of „Aisyiyah Regency in Yogyakarta. Credibility data test in this research used triangulation and member checking in order to determine the data validity. The results of this study had found that characteristics of female leader such as the mother, the pet, the sex object and the iron maiden were existed in this study objects while the mother was the most dominant. In one side this family business development had been done by focus on the product innovation sustainability, such as Gudeg can and instant Gudeg etc. In another side the family business development had been supported by some factors, such as increasing promotion, introducing product widely, innovation program and concentrate on its market target. Those all activities had been conceptualized before the action in time management frame. Her will and high effort that had been done already result the wealth for herself, her family and her employees. Some factors of gender inequity had affected of her leaderships in developing family business while this gender inequity problem did not have great effect in leading and developing her family business. Stereotype and double burden were more faced by Lies. She had reached success to cover her problem in developing family business because she always assumed that she could solve and minimize the problem.
