Restructuring Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires Jimena Ramírez Casas Antropóloga, Núcleo de Estudios Sociales sobre Moralidades, Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales (IDAES), Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM) jimenaramirezcasas@gmail.com The Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero S.A. was created on 1989. Its principal objective was the urbanization of the area surrounding the old port. One hundred and seventy hectares of State‐owned land were assigned to the Corporation. The city, in turn, committed itself to preparing an innovative project for urban rehabilitation. Puerto Madero represented an area of great development potential favored by the proximity of the Natural reserve which contributed to the environmental quality. The Corporation´s Masterplan envisioned recovering the city´s waterfront from Retiro to La Boca. First, we provide a brief historical outline of the relationship of the city to (and its role as) the port. Below we describe the urban restructuring process unfolded in the last twenty years, concluding with a first empirical approximation of the current uses of urban public space of the fragment analyzed.
