ABSTRACT
The problem of accessing data in remote areas where wired network is unreachable is solved by Broadband
Wireless Network Technology. This technology has brought a drastic change in sharing and communication of data
irrespective of distance and location .But there exists some unsolved issues that are preventing wide adaption of Wireless
Technologies. This research paper will provide an overview of issues in Wi-Fi and WiMAX networks. It discusses the
aspects of wireless coverage applicable depending on suitability, availability and application requirement capabilities. This
paper also addresses the issues inherent to Wi-Fi and WiMAX network protocols that are coming in the way to achieve a
robust and seamless integration of these broadband wireless network technologies. the large number of Wireless Local
Area Networks (WLANs) has facilitated an enormous development of routing protocols in Mobile Network Environments.
This paper proposes an algorithm to allow dissimilar communication networks a robust, seamless data transmission and
interconnectivity using Broadband Wireless Networks such as WiFi and Wimax.
KEYWORDS: Wireless Fidility (WiFi), Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX)
INTRODUCTION
The development of Wireless Networks is essential and significant in Modern era of Computing and
Communication Innovation. This Wireless technology is contributing exponentially to the growth and use of mobile
devices for the last few years very rapidly. It has become popular among many organizations (educational and research
institutions, companies) and also individuals because of its increased efficiency in sharing and utilizing the data and other
information resources from anywhere throughout the world. The history of wireless networks started with the IEEE 802.11
network standard which came into existence in 1999 and was named 802.11b, but it was due to security concern it was
revised. This revision initiated the need for a robust network solution with a high level of knowledge. IEEE, IETF and
WiFi Alliance gave some measures to provide security in 802.11 standards. Meanwhile the 802.16 and WiMAX
(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) forum resorted to provide correction of the flaws in 802.11standards.
WIMAX can provide mobile support connection for individual as well as enterprises, Backhaul Wi-Fi, cellular
connectivity, rural to remote connectivity and support a variable range of coverage. This research paper will address the
issues involved in Integration or Convergence of both the broadband wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and WiMAX
standards and gives an algorithm that can improve the speed and robustness for seamless transmission of data.
The potential benefits are still required to be exploited significantly irrespective of the limitations that prevail.
This difficulty is mainly due to the fact that the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX) Broadband
Wireless Communication (BWC) technology is not affordable within the regions. It offers various services to its users
anywhere. Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) can be used on the other hand to expand the coverage of wireless services which can
