SOCIAL PROBLEMS PREVALENT IN OUR SOCIETY (BY OHANMU ERHUNMWUNSE) The issue of social problem cannot be overemphasized. It could be regarded as social vices or inappropriateness, but the issue as it regard social problem is beyond all human reckoning. A social problem ranges from economical and political issues to that of cultural issues. But the biggest of all this prevalence in our society is ‘Religion’. Religion is the grand master of all social or societal problems as it tends to corrupt both the economical, political and cultural issues. Not withholding, all these under listed shall be elaborated and emphasized on, especially Religion. Nevertheless, social problem prevalent in our society tend to bring about environmental problems, and environmental problem is just another platform for the greatest problem in our society particularly our environment, and could be referenced to the “silent spring” by Rachel Carson, 1962, which talks about environmental problem and how social problems is one of the causes of it, and its implication. Like I said earlier, the issue of social problems prevalent in our society cannot be overemphasized. Now let’s briefly look into the issues discussed above. ECONOMIC ISSUES. The biggest social problem prevalent in our society is one boil out of economic disparity can create a lot of social inappropriateness and vices. The recent of economic issues is that of economic recession in Europe and the world at large. This Global recession has led to the cut of work- and it may even affect the per capital income, lack of job security and in the long run, children are deprived of education because their parents have no jobs anymore. For example in Spain the economic recession is heightened and people are migrating to other countries. This issue could as well lead to theft, fraud, migration and other social vices which bring about mayhem to our society. POLITICAL ISSUES. The word alone speaks for itself. Political issues are issues that emanate from political instability. For example, in Nigeria where we have politicians looking to stay in power till death, not giving room for talented youths and individuals with potentials but embezzling money, making policy that suit themselves and thinking about their pocket and pockets only. The implication of political issues can buttress no longer as it takes no significant importance to them, for this implication brings imbalances to the society as it is a social prevalent. CULTURAL ISSUES. Different ethnic group and lifestyle with different belief of an ideal thing should be or ought to be. Cultural issues tend to hinder development, progress and changes in many ways proven.
