This research is mainly focused on increasing the line efficiency of dress sewing W 1234 . Less accuracy of standard time and poor work arrangement are identified as the root cause of having low efficiency. As a result, the target output is hardly to be achieved and the overtime must be held. Hand-to-mouth system and additional cost are occurred as the side effect of this situation. In order to overcome the root cause, a time study is the first and foremost method to be done. By having accurate standard time, it is expected that the number of operators is adequate, and also the work arrangement is able to be designed smooth without violating takt time. Thus line balancing is the next method used after time study. By implementing those two methods, there are many improvements can be achieved. The line efficiency is increased up to 60% from the previous line efficiency. Thus the target output can be achieved and overtime can be removed. As a result, the problem of hand-to-mouth and having additional cost can be overcome. Keywords: line efficiency, output, standard time, line balancing, work arrangement, cycle time. 1. INTRODUCTION Having high efficiency is very beneficial for a company. One of the benefits is related to the internal of the company itself. When the efficiency is high, it means that all resources such as men, raw material, machines, and space are well-utilized. Thus, excess resources can be allocated for other projects. Moreover, the company could also spend proper cost of production when the efficiency is high. Another benefit is increase the value of the company in the midst of business competition. The company will be able to produce more output with a shorter lead time in fulfilling demand from customers. Those are some benefits of having high efficiency. PT. X Indonesia, thereafter will be called as PTXI, is a part of multinational company which produces a top toy brand in the world. PTXI runs the activity in producing doll. Having high efficiency is also important for PTXI as a subsidiary. By concerning to the efficiency, PTXI could satisfy the order from headquarter with well-managed resources. Thus headquarter will never miss the opportunity in each season because the demand will always be fulfilled in the right moment. Moreover, it will avoid PTXI for spending extra cost due to excessive resources such as labor and machine. Therefore, though PTXI is a subsidiary but achieving high efficiency is important. Line W 1234 in costume sewing production area is chosen as the case study in this research. During the second week in October, a data shows that the average efficiency in costume sewing of W 1234 is 57.6%. That number shows that the line efficiency of W 1234 is low compared to the standard efficiency 85%. It is expected that the line efficiency of this costume is able to be increased. Therefore this case is selected to be researched. The low line efficiency of W 1234 has impacted the output, and end up with a high overtime. Target output of
