Baltic J. Coleopterol, 1 (1 - 2); 71 - 74, In the present paper, the author provides information about 24 Ptiliidae species, that were found in Latvia. 8 of those were registered in the Baltic States fauna for the first time. 6 species are new to the Latvian fauna. Thus the total number of the Ptiliidae species found in Latvia has increased from 15 to 29. E-mail: beetles@dpu.lv INTRODUCTION Information about the fauna of the Ptiliidae and the distribution of its species in Latvia is remain- ing incomplete. In the recently published check list of Latvian beetles and that of the Ptiliidae (Telnov et al., 1997, Telnov, 1999), 12 and 15 species respectively, were mentioned as located in Latvia. This is substantially less than, for ex- ample, in Sweden where 72 species of the fam- ily are encountered (Lundberg, 1995). The present paper contains information about 24 Ptiliidae species, which were mainly collected in South-Eastern Latvia from 1998 to 2000. The author has collected the material, and expresses his gratitude to M.Sorensen (Sweden), who has determined it. 8 species:Actidium boudieri (Allibert, 1844), Oligella foveolata(Allibert, 1844),Micridium halidaii(Matthews, 1868),Euryptilium gillmeisteriFlach, 1889,Ptiliola brevicolle (Matthews, 1860), Smicrus filicornis (Fairmaire & Laboulbene, 1855), Baeocrara japonica (Matthews, 1884),Acrotrichis parva (Rosskothen, 1935), were for the first time reg- istered in the fauna of the Baltic States. 6 species: Ptenidiumpusillum (Gyllenhal, 1808), Ptenidium nitidum(Heer, 1841),Ptilium exaratum(Allibert, 1844),Acrotrichis montandoni(Allibert,! 844),Acrotrichis thoracica(Waltl, 1838),Acrotrichis dispar (Matthews, 1865), are new to the Latvian fauna. Three of the latter had been registered in Livland by G.Seidlitz in the 19 th century (Seidlitz, 1872 - 1875), although later they were not included in the check lists of Latvian beetles and the Ptiliidae (Telnov et ah, 1997, Telnov, 1999). Acrotrichis thoracica (Waltl, 1838) was already mentioned for Latvia by S.Lundberg (Lundberg, 1995), but since this species was not mentioned in the above mentioned checklists (Telnov et al., 1997, Telnov, 1999), this paper presents it as a species, which is new to Latvian fauna. Taking this into account, 14 of the described 24 species are new to Latvian fauna. Thus, the number of the Ptiliidae species in this country has nearly doubled. Still even these 29 species 71
