O AUTO DA COMPADECIDA:O HUMOR NORDESTINO LEGENDADO RESUMO A tradução é um terreno fértil para escolhas desafiadoras, decorrentes do contato do tradutor com um texto de partida, que norteia um segundo texto ou texto de chegada. É a atividade tradutória, contudo, uma tarefa de alta complexidade, que abre um leque de possibilidades, sempre relacionadas às demandas contextuais em que se insere uma determinada obra. O presente trabalho descreve e analisa as soluções tradutórias encontradas pelo tradutor na recriação dos enunciados humorísticos para as legendas do filme O Auto da Compadecida. O tradutor, além de ter trabalhado com as particularidades linguísticas e culturais das falas, precisou adequar sua produção às especificidades da legendagem, respeitando o limite de caracteres, de linhas e de tempo das legendas na tela. Além do pouco espaço disponível na tela e do curto tempo para leitura, não há possibilidade de releitura das legendas, nem de uma nota explicativa ao final de cada cena, para melhor compreensão do público, portanto, as referências culturais devem chegar da forma mais clara possível para o espectador. É analisado, se o humor presente nas falas em português funciona nas legendas em inglês, em conjunto com o visual das cenas, que ajudam na compreensão geral da película. ABSTRACT The translation is a fruitful field for challenging choices, resulting from the translator's contact with a source text, which guides a second text or a target text. The translational activity is, however, a highly complex task, that provides a range of possibilities, always related to the contextual demands in which a particular work is part of. It describes and analyzes the solutions found by the translator in recreating humorous subtitles for the movie O Auto da Compadecida. Besides working with the linguistic and cultural lines, the translator had to adapt his production to the subtitling specificities, respecting the subtitles characters, time and lines limit on the screen. There is no possibility of re-reading the subtitles, or having an explanatory note at the end of each scene for better understanding of the audience, so the cultural references should come as clear as possible for the viewer. It is analyzed in the proposed work, if the expressed humor in the speeches in Portuguese, also works in the English subtitles, together with the visual effect and the characters gestures which help the film understanding, in line with the movie cultural aspects.
