This research problem was the students having low motivation in learning mathematics. The type of this research was the classroom action research. Classroom action research is different with the qualitative and quantitative research, but has both characteristics. Researcher designed plan and intervention of Cooperative Learning using type Student Team-Achivement Division. The participants in this study were 35 students from grade VII at Junior High School consisted of 21 male students and 14 female students. Collecting data used by several methods: (1) observation, (2) interviews, (3) field notes, and (4) the relevant documents. Data collected through several methods were used to perform triangulation as an effort to check the validity of the data. Based on these results can be concluded that Cooperative Learning using type of Student Team-Achievement Division is effective to be applied to increase student motivation. Keywords: learning motivation, classroom action research, cooperative learning. Abstrak. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah rendahnya motivasi siswa pada pelajaran matematika. Tipe penelitian ini adalah riset aksi kelas. Riset aksi kelas pada dasarnya berbeda dengan penelitian kualitatif dan kuantitatif, namun memiliki kedua karakteristik tersebut. Penulis mendesain rancangan dan intervensi Cooperative Learning dengan tipe Student Team-Achivement Division. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa kelas 7 SMP, yang terdiri dari 21 siswa laki-laki dan 14 siswa perempuan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan beberapa cara, yakni observasi, wawancara, catatan lapangan dan dokumen-dokumen lainnya yang dipandang relevan. Hal ini juga merupakan bagian dari triangulasi untuk memastikan bahwa hasil penelitian ini adalah valid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Cooperative Learning dengan menggunakan tipe Student Team- Achievement Division efektif untuk diterapkan dalam upaya meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa.
