Katsoyannou M., Toraki K. (2010). The Greek Technical Committee of Standardization on Terminology TE21. In: 5th Terminology Summit: Quality matters. 12–13 November 2010, Budapest (Hungary) 1 The Committee TE21 of the Hellenic Organization for Standardization Marianne Katsoyannou and Katerina Toraki Introduction The first debates on the issue of quality in terminology date from the '80s. If the question is new today is that the conditions of terminology work have been substantially modified and a new focus now seems to be necessary. In this paper, we present the issue from the point of view of the work of a technical committee that has been working since 1978 at a national level. This is the technical committee TE21 whose full title is "Technical Committee 21: Principles of technical terminology". This committee belongs to the Hellenic Organization for Standardization (ELOT), which is the official organization - member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), mandated to manage standardization issues in Greece and is the national mirror-committee to ISO Technical Committee on Terminology TC 37. Apart from the Hellenic Organization for Standardization, the committee TE21 owes much to the continuous support of the Technical Chamber of Greece, an organization that brings together engineers from technical universities in the country (all specialties) and shows particular interest in the adoption of International Standards and more generally in the theoretical development of standardization issues. Administrative Organization Since its establishment, members of TE21 are representatives from a range of institutions and public actors whose cooperation is already a first key factor for ensuring the quality of its work. On the one hand, participants are senior specialists in various fields of science and technology, on the other hand they are sufficiently motivated to participate actively in the work of TE21. Apart from the two founding organizations of the committee, ie the ELOT and the Technical Chamber, the following bodies are also represented : Hellenic Society for Terminology Association of Greek Chemists Hellenic Physical Society
