However, these systems implemented without pay enough attention to the learners’ experiences of the employing the e-learning system. Although it is believed that the e-learning system can improve learning, the features and functionalities of the systems are often underutilized. Therefore, the important issue that requires to be determined is: what are the e-learning features that can enhance learning as an active learning? In order to promote student interaction on e-learning system, this paper explores the concept of meaningful learning pedagogy and particularly focusing on the characteristics of the active learning. This paper also investigates the potential factors that contribute to active learning in the e-learning system (i.e. Moodle); which focuses on the activities and actions that able to support active learning by lecturers and students. The e-learning data log are observed to measure the number of hits of activities and actions on the e- learning system to determine whether the active learning characteristics have been achieved. The statistical analysis method is used to analyze activities and actions on data log. Finally, this paper reveals a guideline with activities and actions in an e - learning system that support active learning. Therefore, with appropriate and proper usage of the tools in the e-learning system, learning experiences can be enhanced. This guideline proved to be useful to enhance using active learning technology by the educators. Keywords: e-learning system; active learning; e-learning activities and actions I. INTRODUCTION The traditional context of learning is experiencing a radical change. Teaching and learning are no longer limited to traditional classrooms [1]. Information technology and communication are seen as one of tool that should be part of educational and research process ( i.e. e-learning). E-learning, referring to the use of electronic and technology for learning, such as graphic, audio, video, and internet. There is no doubt that e-learning as a medium that supports the learning process, similar with Wagner [2], “E-learning can be understood as an educational process, using information and communication technologies to create training, to distribute learning content, communication between students and teachers and for management of studies.“ The use of e-learning provides a solution for online learning that infinite by time and space, which can also engage all of academic actors. It has given us a suggestion that “e” on the e- learning is not only means „electronic‟ but has a deep meaning which could be evolving or everywhere or enhanced or extended [3]. This paper tries to make an associate between e- learning usage with learning pedagogy in education was initiated by Ausubel about meaningful learning. E-learning can be regarded as a meaningful learning medium if it‟s having a significant role in the learning process. E-learning should be able to support meaningful learning characteristics that proposed by Jonassen et. al [4] as follows : active, constructive, collaborative, intentional and cooperative. More specifically, this paper will focus for extensive study about active learning characteristics. Learning process cannot be enhanced just by distributing and accessing learning materials through the e-learning system. Various features (activities and actions) have been provided by the e-learning system (such as Moodle) to enhance learning. In this paper, we agree that e-learning can improve the learning process, but the main issue of this paper is “what are the e-learning features that can enhance the learning process as an active learning?” We will therefore depart from the active learning perspective. The aims of this paper is to explore meaningful learning pedagogy concepts which particularly focus on the active learning characteristics. In addition, this paper investigates the potential factors that contribute to the active learning in the Moodle system by looking into the activities and actions. Accordingly, this paper provides a guideline for educators to recognize which activities and actions are supposed to be done on the Moodle system to contribute as an active learning.
