Learning Analytics and Pedagogy Theory in Distance Learning “Term Paper” Nurfazlina Binti Haris Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Science University Of Technology MARA fazlinaharis@yahoo.com Abstract — Almost all higher education today have providing learning management systems (LMS) which provide access the student to the important information and materials in the remote location. Furthermore in (haryani & Suriyani, 2010), it is an innovation of learning and teaching using the digital media and computer technology by which the information able to be distribute via networks toward assisting, simplifying and accelerating the academic and learning process to the distance learner. Therefore, the question is lie where “How to bring out the most opportunity from this learning management student to the distance learner learning outcome?” Apart of how to design effective learning design inside the learning system, and the factor of adoption of the learning system. The strategic tool needs to be supported in learning management in order to create a better learning process for distance learners. In the research that has been done, it has become a challenge of interpreting, predicting and evaluating the learning and quality of participation of individuals when it involves with numerous of student contribution to discussion in online learning (Dringus & Ellis, 2005). INTRODUCTION The use of technology in the learning process and the activity where it took place was not a new phenomenon. Since in 1996, the Malaysian initiative of the Multimedia Super Corridor in (Zoraini Wati Abas, 2009) has become an evidence of the emerging of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has played an important role in Malaysia. Technology enhances learning (TEL) or blended learning in education especially in higher education, has an impact to the total number of enrolments in courses deliver virtual or distance learning from the Malaysian e-learner. Therefore higher education is following this trend by allowing distance learners to receive their academic certificate and degree using distance course, in order to take the full advantage from TEL and growth profits opportunity (Harper, Chen & Yen, 2004). Almost all higher education today have providing learning management systems (LMS) which provide access the student to the important information and materials in the remote location. Furthermore in (haryani & Suriyani, 2010), it is an innovation in learning and teaching using the digital media and computer technology by which the information able to be distributed via networks toward assisting, simplifying and accelerating the academic and learning process to the distance learner. II. ISSUE IN LEARNING ANALYTICS AND DISTANCE LEARNING It has been approved that, most of higher education with dual modes of interaction (full-time and part- time distance), applying LMS as important learning support either than a traditional classroom setting, which this can be seen in the private and public institutions of higher education such as Open University Malaysia, University Science Malaysia, and University of Technology MARA (Zoraini, 2009; Haryani & Suriyani, 2010). Therefore, the question lies where “How to bring out the most opportunity for this learning management student to the distance learner learning outcome?” Apart of how to design effective learning design inside the learning system, and the factor of adoption of the learning system.
