1 PENULISAN BUKU TEKS YANG BERKUALITAS Mudzakir AS 1 Abstrak: This investigation is inspired by the low achievement of students in Bahasa Indonesia subject throughout Indonesia as indicated by the unsatisfactory National Examination result, which is on average still under 6.0. As a matter of fact, the minimum score for each province should have been at least 6.0. This is of course in contrary with the fact that textbooks play a crucial role in the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia, since they contain teaching materials, exercises, tasks, and evaluation instruments that teachers use. Besides, they also serve as the classroom teaching and learning guidance, a consequence of their being syllabus interpretation. Textbooks are particularly essential as a guiding aid for the less experienced teachers. This study aimed to develop a quality Bahasa Indonesia textbook writing model, which is hoped to lead to the increase of the teaching and learning activities in the classroom. With this increase, it is expected that the students' achievements will improve and consequently will affect positively the average National Examination score. To develop the model, a qualitative and evaluative study on the quality textbook was first carried out. The study aimed at identifying and classifying the current Indonesian textbook writing models. The study was then followed by a comparative analysis to find out the weak and strong points of each model. The strong points identified in the models were after that utilized as building blocks to develop a rigorous and quality textbook writing model. The model was evaluated and judged by means of an established textbook evaluation instrument and of expert opinions. In the triangulation procedure applied to the developed model, three Bahasa Indonesia language teaching experts, five Bahasa Indonesia teachers, and sixty students of SMP Negeri I Cisarua, Bandung, West Java, were involved. On the basis of identification, verification, and triangulation results, a good and quality textbook writing model was successfully developed. This was affirmed by the evaluation instruments. As it is required by the instruments, the model bears some substantial characteristics. According to the research results, a quality textbook should comprise two main components, namely (1) basic components, i.e. parts of the textbooks referred to when evaluating textbooks, and (2) complementary, i.e. those which are accompanying the textbooks, and 3) perfection components, i.e. those which are required after the completion of the basic components. Finally, it is recommended that textbook writers, parents, educational leaders and administrators should pay their great attention to qualified textbook writing guidances and highlitghts in order to increase educational outputs properly.
