Abstract The aim of this study is the investigation of effective factors in the formation of traditional houses in Tabriz with regard to their cultural significance. Statistical sample of this research is based on selecting the number of traditional houses registered by the Cultural Heritage Organization of Tabriz. The analytical and metrical method with image and tables is used for studying the content. The results show that various factors like climate, social relationships, culture, economics and politics affect the result of this study. With regard to the findings of this research it is possible to continue the research in contemporary projects. Introduction “In constructing a city and building we use all kinds of knowledge including: Cosmology, Sacred geography, Irrigation Geometry, stronomy and Alchemy and building technology”. 1 Housing in accordance with the condition of life is one the most important human purposes, and as the most popular and initial body of residential collections reflects social, aesthetic, culture and economic situations of the community in its own period that an architect will show the physical and concrete aspect of it. In Islam house is a place, which gives people comfort and easement, and they can be saved from hot and cold weather until the man complies with the decree of Allah. 2 Tabriz, a city in northwest of Iran and the capital of East Azarbaijan province it is fourth largest city in Iran. Situated at an altitude of 1,350 meters at the junction of the Quri River and Aji River, it was the second largest city in Iran until the late 1960s, one of its former capitals, and residence of the crown prince under the Ghajar (Qajar) dynasty. The city has proven extremely influential in the country’s recent history.
