Proceeding, International Seminar on Industrial Engineering and Management ISSN : 1978-774X Proposed Improvement Quality Products (Leli) 1 PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT QUALITY OF FOOD JAR PRODUCTS WITH SIX SIGMA METHOD Leli Deswindi 1 , Christin 2 1 Leli Deswindi, Universitas Bunda Mulia, Jakarta, Indonesia 2 Christin, Universitas Bunda Mulia, Jakarta, Indonesia. ldeswindi@bundamulia.ac.id, christin@bundamulia.ac.id ABSTRACT This study discusses the improvement and continuous quality program through the implementation of the philosophy of Six Sigma using the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control). From the analysis concluded the primary cause of these defects is men and methods. Given the proposed improvements are the methods of production processes, such making reference standard for "Best Practice Guide", to check and do the trial on the mold, the plunger cylinder schedule and training for the operator. To achieve the target company's efficiency by 87% required an increase in the value of sigma until 4.27 and suppresses COPQ to Rp 315. 749. 415, - Key words: SIX Sigma, Quality, Continues Improvement 1. INTRODUCTION The problems that companies deal in producing a product that is always the same in the production process often encountered product defects. This is in addition adding to the cost of operations, also implies a loss of quality of goods produced. Especially, if the goods are defective or damaged is not detected in the plant and then purchased by consumers. If this happens, then it is not likely consumers will switch to a competitor company. Therefore, companies should establish the quality standards of products and trying to reduce the level of defective or damaged products. By reducing the level of defects as well as always maintaining product quality continue, will reduce production costs and maintain a competitive product prices. One of multinational company in Container Division (MGC) cant achieve the efficiency of a production target of 87%. This also happened to one of the flint bottle MGC products where the production process, flint bottle produces a fairly high level of disability. 2. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND Six sigma can be interpreted as follows: a. Six sigma is defined as high-tech methods used by engineers and statisticians to improve or develop processes or products. b. Six sigma is a statistical concept that measures a process associated with defects or failure and also a management philosophy that focuses on removing defects by emphasizing the understanding, measurement and process improvement. c. Six Sigma is a comprehensive and flexible system for achieving, maintaining, and maximizing business success (Pande et al. 2002, PXI). Figure 1. Model of Six Sigma Breakthrough Performance The word sigma is a statistical term that means the standard deviation describes how far the process variation of mean values in the positive and negative directions.
