CARGO 2000 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR THE WORLDWIDE AIR CARGO INDUSTRY Founded in 1997 as an ‘IATA Interest Group’ by leading forwarders and airlines, with the unique goal of implemenng a world-wide quality management system for air cargo, Cargo 2000 aims at changing the way the air cargo industry manages quality. C2K developed a system of shipment planning and performance monitoring for air cargo based on common business process and milestones definions. Today, C2K members measure their ‘delivery as promised’ performance according to a standard methodology for more than 200,000 shipments monthly Airport-to-Airport (‘Phase 1’) and 400,000 monthly for Door-to-Door (‘Phase 2’). Cargo 2000 consists of a group of 78 major airlines, freight forwarders, ground handlers, trucking companies and IT providers. Its members are implemenng re-engineered air cargo transportaon processes from shipper to consignee using Cargo's 2000's Master Operang Plan. This sits at the heart of an industry-wide process control and reporng system that drives data management and correcve acon systems. By more than halving the number of individual processes in the air cargo supply chain to just 19, Cargo 2000 is less labor intensive and improves the process for managing shipments in a paperless environment. It substanally reduces me spent managing irregularies, such as service failures, cuts the me required for manual track and trace procedures and leads to a reducon in service recovery costs. C2K Master Operang Plan The global air cargo standard C2K Members inially developed the C2K Master Operang Plan (MOP) to support implementaon of quality management processes and metrics, using standard approaches. The MOP describes the key processes and sub-processes involved in transporng air cargo from shipper to consignee in a systemac and harmonized manner. The C2K MOP includes specific informaon related to the implementaon of the C2K Quality Management System. It enables industry-wide process control and reporng that in turn drives constant improvement and correcve acon systems.
