1 Effects of Distributed versus Integrated Motivational and Volitional Strategies on Learner Attitudes and Performance Markus Deimann Erziehungswissenschaftliche Fakultät Erfurt University Germany Markus.Deimann@uni-erfurt.de Abstract Combinations of motivational and volitional strategies, based on an expansion of the ARCS model of motivational design to include volitional considerations, were implemented via email in a large undergraduate course. This semester-long study has four phases: a baseline period, a primary treatment phase, a blended treatment phase, and a final baseline period. The study also incorporates a placebo treatment to control for the possibility of enhanced performance due to novelty effects instead of the experimental treatment. It is expected that a distributed strategy treatment will have a positive effect on motivation, volition, and performance.
