Email: 1 jonarockiaraj@gmail.com, 2 pari.maths06@gmail.com Abstract: Hepatitis B Viruses (HBV) are the group of viruses that infect the liver. Some type of hepatitis can cause very serious disease and extreme cases may lead to death. HBV is transmitted primarily by exposure to contaminated body fluids, especially blood and semen. HBV symptoms includes: tenderness and pain in the lower abdomen, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, pain in the joints, headache, fever, hives, jaundice-yellowing of skin and eyes. The focal point of this paper is to describe and illustrate the application of fuzzy cluster means (FCM) system to the diagnosis of HBV. Keywords: Fuzzy logic, Clustering, Fuzzy C-Means, HBV. Introduction : Hepatitis B virus ( HBV ) is a small, circular, partially double – standard DNA virus in the Hepodnaviridae family. HBV is a virus that causes liver disease and inflammation of the liver. Anyone can get hepatitis B. But those more likely to get are people who 1. Were born to a mother with hepatitis B. 2. Are in contact with blood, needles or body fluidsat work. 3. Have a history of sexually transmitted disease. 4. Are on kidney dialysis. 5. Are infected with HIV. The symptoms of HBV includes : tenderness and pain in the abdomen, vomiting, fever, nausea, sore joint pain, weight loss, headaches, hives, fatigue, jaundice – yellowing of the skin and eyes. Chronic hepatitis B is long – lasting infection with the hepatitis B virus ( HBV ). Without treatment chronic hepatitis B can cause liver cancer or severe live damage that leads to liver failure . By 1885,hepatitis was found to be transmittable through blood transfusions and syringes when epidemics of jaundice broke out during the wars of the 17 th – 19 th centuries. By 1965, Baruch Blumberg, then working at the National Health Institute (NIH), discovered the Australia antigen in the blood of aborigines. Later in 1968, Prince and Okochi isolated the Australia antigen in hepatitis B patients and from this information, along with the discovery of the Dane particle in 1970, the first vaccine for hepatitis B was produced in 1981 and licensed as “heptawax “. Diagnosis of HBV includes the blood test which shows if you have hepatitis B virus infection. Existing methods of medical diagnosis employed by physicians for the analysis of HBV infection uses manual methods characterized by the inability to handle uncertain or vague data existing between intervals. So, those systems are not self – learning or adaptive in nature. This paper has chosen to solve these problems by employing the rich facilities of fuzzy cluster means. Overview of Fuzzy C-Means Clustering (FCM): Cluster analysis is a statistical technique used to classify objects into coherent categories based on a set of measurement, indicators or variables. The invention and application of fuzzy cluster means (FCM) algorithm in pattern recognition allows entities (objects) to belong to many cluster or categories with different degrees of membership. In this paper, fuzzy c – means algorithm is used to assign patients with HBV conditions to clusters of HBV. The FCM algorithm is one of the most widely used fuzzy clustering algorithms. The FCM algorithm attempts to partition a finite
