However, sustainable transportation (ST) is a complex and integrated issue. Therefore, explanation of strategies towards ST among educationalist may face several problems due to constraints of information, experience and expertise. Moreover, experienced preceptor may also face other constraints such as the time to deliver the information. However, experts are able to communicate better, determine the transportation impact, provide optimum solutions to transport problems and work towards ST. Transfer of expertise from experts to student and educationalist is difficult in the domain of education. Therefore, there is a need for a system in which experts could share their experience with students in educational field. If no such transfer of expertise and knowledge occurs, the students may get less information and may also face trouble in the future. Documentation, classification and computerization of the knowledge can be very helpful for them. This study describes the development of an expert system that can be used by transportation engineering students as well as novice engineers to implement sustainable urban transportation. The system can also be used as an instructional tool for interested town planner in transportation standpoint. In addition, the system can archive and organize raw knowledge from experts for use by all engineers who working in this field. Besides, domain experts can use the system to share experiences.
