CAPI Computer – Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) is an interviewing technique in which the respondent or interviewer uses a computer/portable device to answer the quesons. This method provides credible data within a short period of me even with long and complicated quesonnaire. CAPI Development Following steps are followed during CAPI development:- Formulaon of interview quesonnaire. o During this phase, inputs received from the client are also included Interview programming o Specific programming language(Default English) o Quesonnaire design soſtwares o Forms design soſtwares Debugging and pilot tesng o Understand error free output o Total me taken , On that basis of we will decide our interview length (Min to Max interview me) Advantages Increased accuracy of data collecon o Built in edit checks to evaluate the consistency as well as completeness of the data Ease in handling complex quesonnaire o Automated skips paerns, calculaons, fill-ins decrease errors o Decreases interviewer and respondent burden Improved meliness o Combines data collecon and entry phases of interviewing Impact on the interview cost o Depends on the program resources and type of survey o Higher front end costs e.g. Computers, interviewer training o Lower back end costs e.g. data processing Appeal of CAPI to respondents o Computers perceived as nonjudgmental and objecve o Interview facilitator perceived as more professional Limitaons Difficult to manage open ended quesons ( Collect open end quesonnaire in Paper) Potenal for technical problems during interviews Limitaons like literacy issues and vision problems of the interviewees The survey is likely to aract only respondents who are “ computer savvy”, thus introducing the bias to the survey
