Por uma investigação qualitativa sobre a integração social de indivíduos de origem cigana na sociedade portuguesa, através da realização de entrevistas em profundidade, constatámos que há uma distinção clara entre as experiências de vida e os percursos de integração dos homens e das mulheres ciganas em Portugal. A mulher cigana embora seja de um modo geral considerada como tendo um papel central na cultura cigana, acaba por ter também pouco espaço para afirmação da sua individualidade por pressão e controle do grupo de pertença. Tem-se vindo a assistir a algumas mudanças devido a transformações sociais e políticas, nomeadamente pelo impacto de políticas sociais, por exemplo, o rendimento social de inserção que surge como uma oportunidade de escolarização das mulheres e de formação profissional, o que se vai reflectir nas vivências familiares. O objectivo desta comunicação é apresentar os resultados obtidos sobre os percursos de integração social das mulheres ciganas, sendo que consistem em processos quase sempre de afastamento e/ou de punição por parte da suas famílias. Trata-se de uma perspectiva de análise ainda pouco conhecida e explorada teoricamente e que nos propomos aqui desenvolver e aprofundar sob um enfoque social dinâmico. In a qualitative research made about the social integration of people of Gypsy origin in the Portuguese society, by conducting in-depth interviews, we found that there is a clear distinction between the life experiences and pathways for integration of Gypsies men and women in Portugal. The Gypsy woman although it is generally regarded as having a central role in Gypsy culture, turns out to have too little space to assert their individuality by pressure and control the group of belonging. There has been assisting a some changes due to social and political transformations, including the impact of social policies, for example, the social integration income, which appears as an opportunity for female education and profissional training which will be reflected the family experiences. The purpose of this paper is to present the results on the pathways of social integration of Gypsy women who almost always consist of processes of rejection or punishment by the origin families.
