Endang Sri Indrawati, M.Si Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Diponegoro ABSTRACT Extramarital behavior is a violation of the commitments and promises that monogamous marriage with a relationship outside of marriage secretly. In monogamous marriage, sexual and emotional exclusivity is important and has a great influence in maintaining harmony and lasting marriage relationship. This research is important because along with the development of times, extramarital behavior considered as normal behavior is even contrary to the norms in force. Serious consequences felt all the parties and the high divorce rate due to extramarital behavior also makes this research important to do. Research conducted with qualitative methods and using a phenomenological approach. Method of data collection is done by in-depth interviews, observation methods, and documents in the form of audio material. Research subjects of three people chosen on the basis of predetermined criteria. The results showed that the extramarital behavior is the way the individual to cope with tension because of the particular needs that are not met by either through marriage partner. Various problems and conflicts that occur in marriages, relationships and communication climate are not going well can lead to the emergence of dissatisfaction that causes a person to do extramarital behavior. Personality, premarital sexual experience, a negative moral value, unpreparedness married, and emotional immaturity can be a motivating factor extramarital behavior. In addition, the opportunity and the influence of social environment also encourages individuals to conduct extramarital behavior. This research is expected to be taken into consideration for the individual before deciding to conduct extramarital behavior because the resulting negative impact far greater than the pleasure that would bring.
