Lukman Hakim Kantor Bahasa Provinsi Gorontalo Jalan Beringin Nomor 664, Tomulabutao, Gorontalo Pos-el: mlukman_gtlo@yahoo.com Abstract This paper tend to describe and analyze aspects of taboo among Gorontalonese either in the form of speech/word and act. This study is expected to provide valuable contribution to society, especially to the immigrant communities in Gorontalo province. The method used in this paper is a qualitative descriptive analysis, while the sampling technique is specifically suited to the purpose of the study (purposive sampling). Based on psychological motivation, taboo appears on three conditions, namely taboo of fear, taboo of delicacy, and the taboo of Propriety. Key words: taboo, Gorontalonese Abstrak Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis tabu dalam masyarakat Gorontalo baik dalam bentuk ucapan/perkataan dan perbuatan. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan sumbangsih yang berharga bagi masyarakat khususnya masyarakat pendatang di daerah Provinsi Gorontalo. Metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif analisis dengan teknik pengambilan sampel secara khusus sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian (purposive sampling). Berdasarkan motivasi psikologis, tabu muncul minimal karena tiga hal, yakni taboo of fear, taboo of delicacy, dan taboo of propriety. Kata kunci: tabu, masyarakat Gorontalo. 1
