According to the newest theories regarding rituals, ritual behavior is not only observed only in liturgical contexts, but also in everyday life as an expression of a “ritual order”, in which cultural values have to be staged in a performative way, that is to say through ritual behavior which makes them visible, i.e. “embodies” them. In the first part of the paper the Author attempts to define the notion of everyday rituality according the theories of E. Durkheim and E. Goffman, and then attempts to distinguish it from other forms of tribute of sacrality. Ritual behavior is distinguished from routines (recurring scripts, habits) through its relation to a symbolic order of performance of the sacrum. In communicative interactions everyday rituality turns out to be related to interactional power and ritual balance. In the second part of the paper the Author exemplifies the presented notion of everyday rituality by giving some examples of polite and impolite rituals (compliments and mock impoliteness).
