An attempt has been made to study floods from 1958 to 2008. The hydrological data such as water level and water discharge have been collected from two different sources depending on its availability. The stage hydrographs have been prepared using maximum and minimum water level. The magnitude of floods has been identified by comparing the maximum stage hydrograph and danger level specified by Central Water Commission. The stage of 21 floods has been found to be more than 2m in height from DL and one flood has been reported with more than 3m in height within a span of 51years from 1958 to 2008. The flood damage data such as flood affected area, affected cropped area, number of affected villages and affected population have been collected for the same period as in the case of hydrological data. The same data set has been used as indices to find out flood magnitude and their overall socio-economic 1 Corresponding Author: pkpathsala.roy@gmail.com
