34 Chapter 4 SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Summary This study determined the performance of the BSCS first year straight students of DMMMSU-SLUC on Computer Concepts and Fundamentals, school year, 2014-2015 as treated with the discussion learning strategy. Clearly, it defined the following: profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, monthly family income, GPA, learning styles, and personality; the performance of the respondents in the pretest and posttest; the mean gain score of the respondents in the pretest and posttest; the significant difference between pretest and posttest; and, the significant relationship between the respondents’ profile and their posttest scores. The researchers adopted descriptive research method in order to determine and answer the research problems. Data gathering was done through the use of questionnaire and test material. In addition, in order to determine the items to be discarded, revised and retained, the researchers used the test-retest method. Thus, the test material was answered by the second year students. After conducting the test-retest method, the test material had undergone item analysis which resulted to the elimination of fifteen items to the original seventy-five items of the test material. Thereafter, the revised test material was presented to the five validators to check the revised items if it still represents the objectives in Computer Concepts and Fundamentals. The pretest- posttest examination was utilized in the conduct of the study in order to determine the performance of BSCS first year straight students enrolled in Computer
