TITLE— New Digital Production Models: The Consolidation of the Copyleft AUTHOR(S)— Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón; Raúl López García-Navas ABSTRACT— In the last years the world economy is looking for unsuccessfully new production models adapted to the digital society. This necessity it can be noticed in many swingings that the cultural industries are undergoing because they are living/crossing a crisis supposedly due to ilegal downloads and the P2P networks. However, it is also possible that these industries have no longer an important role on production and distribution of cultural contents. In the present digital environmet Copyright must make way for Copyleft's philosophy. This concept is the cornerstone to consolidate the basis of the new business models and to encourage the incipient participation of the society in this production. The transit from copyright to copyleft in the cultural industries The history of international trade reflects some progress that help to understand the current situation of cultural and entertainment industry. After the end of World War II, several countries began to seek trade liberalization. As a result of these interests, in 1947 a score of countries have launched different measures, such as approving the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) or enter into negotiations on the Charter of the International Trade Organization (ITO). Three years later, succumbing to the ITO project, GATT became the sole multilateral framework which regulated international trade. Later, between 70 and 80, states began to consider certain issues to deal with the problems presented by new technologies and this is based on some indications of departments of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This is a global uniform forward to what regards copyrights, seeing reflected in changes to national legislation of each country.
