Television Journalists making stories of Violence against Women in Spain Emma Gómez Nicolau emma.gomez@uv.es Universitat de València Abstract Gender-Based Violence became an urgent policy and media issue in the nineties in Spain. The connection between policy-making and news-making is analysed through 17 in-depth interviews to television journalist from public and private organizations. The paper discusses the evolution of media interest on violence against women and the main changes achieved. EǀeŶ the iŶĐƌeasiŶg ŵedia aǁaƌeŶess oŶ GBV, jouƌŶalists routines difficult challenging violence depiction as an individual problem related to criminality. The paper focuses on the current decrease of media interest on GBV and explores how the production practices affect gender violence depiction.
