Our environment is majorly polluted by the release of hazardous gases into the atmosphere mainly from automobiles. The day-by-day increase in the usage of automobiles on the roads and decrease in the natural fuel source stresses engineers and scientists to develop engines with better fuel efficiency and reduced negative impact on environment. This could be feasible by controlling the engine tribological parameter using composite material. Clearly it is by reducing the weight and friction in the engine by applying suitable composite material and thereby reducing the wear, it can easily control the hazardous emissions to the environment and thereby keeping the environment safe. Introduction Now a days, the world facing lot of problems with the environmental pollutions like water pollutions, soil pollutions, and air pollutions. These environmental pollutants create Hazardous conditions to human life in many ways. The breathing air containing many pollutants may cause many acute and chronic effects to humans. Some of them are lung cancer, respiratory and cardio vascular diseases, asthma, bronchitis and decreased lung function. All these diseases are arises due to the high concentrations of CO, NO x , SO x , CO 2 , HC and PM in the breathing air above their standard emission rate. These emissions are majorly coming out from the automobiles. Due to the low oil price and high performance, the roads are filled with diesel engine vehicles. This includes passenger cars to heavy trucks and buses. So in order to avoid these problems, vehicle manufacture should develop advanced technologies to decrease the vehicle emissions and increase the efficiency of vehicle. Thus the weight is an important parameter for efficiency, the replacing with the light weight will be increase the efficiency of the vehicle and this will reduce the consumption of fuel. Automatically a certain percentage of emission will also reduce. Literature Review Environmental Issues with Diesel Engine. Internal combustion engine or diesel engines play a major role in environmental pollutions. The major pollutants coming out from internal combustion engine are CO, NO x , SO x , HC and PM 10. All these have some acute and chronic effect on humans, especially asthmatics, new born babies and pregnant women etc. The main problem with the particulate matter 10 is, this will easily penetrate and deposits in the human respiratory system. This will create some acute effects like irritations in the respiratory tract, causing coughing and impaired lung functions. Carbon monoxide has 240 times more affinity to haemoglobin than oxygen and if the breathing air contains co, it will react with haemoglobin and produce carboxy haemoglobin. This carboxy haemoglobin will restrict the oxygen flow to tissues Advanced Materials Research Vol. 768 (2013) pp 195-198 Online available since 2013/Sep/04 at www.scientific.net © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland doi:10.4028/www.scientific.net/AMR.768.195 All rights reserved.
