Email: estevanleopoldo@yahoo.com.br Artigo recebido em 03/07/2014 e aceito em 01/11/2014 RESUMO Neste artigo demonstramos como a Geografia nos possibilita uma leitura do território que vai além da sua definição como espaço de governança, que é a área de influência político-administrativa do Estado-Nação e suas subdivisões. Para isso, fazemos uma discussão teórica sobre os seguintes componentes do conceito/categoria de território: relações de poder, materialidade e imaterialidade, multidimensionalidade e multiescalaridade. Enfatizamos a luta de classes para fazer uma abordagem da diferenciação territorial. Sobre as relações de poder, demonstramos como elas devem ser entendidas como geradas em todas as escalas onde se efetivam as relações sociais. Demonstramos ainda, como o território é composto não apenas pela materialidade expressa nas formas, mas também por elementos imateriais como as ideologias, o conhecimento e outros. Também destacamos que o território é uma totalidade, sendo composto por todas as dimensões da realidade, o que contraria as abordagens que enfatizam apenas a dimensão econômica. Por fim, demonstramos como dentro do território do Estado-Nação são efetivadas relações de poder que formam outros territórios. Palavras-chave: Geografia; conceitos; categorias; território. A REVIEW ON THE CONCEPT/CATEGORY OF TERRITORY ABSTRACT The Brazilian territorial occupation and education were primarily guided by territorial treaties and economic In this article we demonstrate how geography enables us a reading of the territory that goes beyond its definition as a space of governance, which is the area of political and administrative influence of the nation state and its subdivisions. For this, we make a theoretical discussion on the following components of the concept / category of territory: power relations, materiality and immateriality, multidimensionality and multiescalaridade. We emphasize the class struggle to make an approach to territorial differentiation. About power relations, we show how they should be understood as generated at all scales which become effective social relations. We also demonstrated, as the territory is composed not only by the materiality expressed in the forms, but also intangibles such ideologies, knowledge and others. We also highlight that the territory is a whole, comprising all dimensions of reality, which contradicts the approaches that emphasize only the economic dimension. Finally, we demonstrate how within the territory of the nation state are effected power relations that form other territories. Keywords: geography, categories, territory.
