Abstract Purpose: Several studies haveshown that patients oftenreceive inadequate treatment for postoperative pain. However, there is littleliterature focusing on the transition process from patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (lV-PCA) and systematic (regular or as needed IPRN]) analgesia in the postoperative context. The purpose of this descriptive study is to describe the types of medication received by postoperative patients during the transition betweenlV- PCA and PRN analgesia, and to describe the painassessments performed by nurses during this transition (n=36).
