1 ϭ5. THE MEANING“ OF KHAY‘ ;GOODͿ IN THE QU‘ĀN ;ϮͿ The remaining examples for the various meanings of khayr iŶ the QuraŶ giǀeŶ ďLJ al -DāŵaghāŶī aŶd IďŶ al -Jaǁzī are as follows: 4. Δَ يِ فΎَ عْ ال(good heath, well-being), as in the following verses: ْ نِ إَϭ َϙ ْ سَ سْ مَ ي هَ ضهرِ بَ لَ فَ فِ شΎ َ ك هَ لَ ِ إَϭ هْ نِ إَϭ َϙ ْ سَ سْ مَ ي رْ يَ خِ بَϭ هϬ َ فϰ َ Ϡَ ع ل ه ك ءْ يَ ش يرِ دَ ق( ϡΎ اأنع: ϭ1 ) And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good (i.e., good health), then He is Able to do all things (Q. 6:17) According to al-Țaďarī aŶd al-Qurṭuďī the terŵ khayr in the above verse means: good health, prosperity and blessing. The similar verse is Q. 10:107) 5. رْ جَ اأ(recompense), as in the following verse: َ نْ بهدْ الَϭ Ύَ هΎ َ نْ Ϡَ عَ جْ ϡ ه كَ لْ نِ مِ رِ ئΎَ عَ شِ َ ْ ϡ ه كَ لΎَϬيِ ف رْ يَ خ( ... الحج: 63 ) And the Budn (cows, oxen, or camels driven to be offered as sacrifices by the pilgrims at the sanctuary of Makkah), We have made them for you as among the Symbols of Allah, wherein you have much good ;i.e., reĐoŵpeŶseͿ… (Q. 22:36) The QurāŶ ĐoŵŵeŶtators Mujāhid, al -Ḥasan as well as al- Țaďarī saLJ that the terŵ khayr in this verse is the reward in the Hereafter for the sacrifice, while in this world the benefits taken from these animals. 6. ضلْ فَ اأ(the best), as in the following verses: ْ ل ه قَϭ Ώ َ رْ رِϔ ْ اغْ ϡَ حْ ارَϭ َΕ ْ نَ أَϭ رهْ يَ خَ ينِ مِ احَ الر( نْϭ ه نِ مْ΅ المه: ϭϭ1 ) AŶd say ;O MuhaŵŵadͿ: “My Lord!
