This platform is designed on the basis of Service-Oriented Architecture and is developed using the emerging Web services standards. Sets of web services are developed taking into account the ubiquity and mobility of students and teachers. The final objective of the platform is to provide users with adaptive interfaces assuring collaboration and mobility. After presenting services, we outline the prototype of the platform that is under tests with mobile and collaborative scenarios. KEYWORDS Mobile learning, web services, service oriented architecture, collaboration. 1. INTRODUCTION The rapid move toward adoption and use of mobile technologies has increasingly provided students and teachers with the ability to study away from classrooms and on the move.Wireless and mobile technologies influence evolution of the current e-learning use and press forward the development of new mode of education enabling any time, anywhere and anyhow learning. This new mode is called mobile learning. With the advent of wireless technologies student consults his/her course material via different ways– PC, phone, PDA...–.This new mode of communication can be called ubiquitous computing. An ubiquitous learning environment is an electronic global repository, which has the potential to be accessed by anyone at any place and any time [Shankar, 2001]. Ubiquitous computing leads to ubiquitous learning. In this paper, we are interested by all types of studying: traditional learning, e-learning, mobile and ubiquitous learning. We propose a platform that englobe the whole. This platform is completely based on web services. This set of emerging protocols and standards will help schools deliver education in a much more open and flexible manner [Meehan, 2002].The architecture is service oriented and we try to offer by the way of our platform the maximum of facilities such as adaptation, openness, re-use and sharing. Service oriented architecture provides a layer of abstraction that minimizes the impact of underlying changes in technology [Thorne, 04]. The SOA is distributed, has a weak coupling of services, is based on standards – ISBN: 972-8939-02-7 © 2005 IADIS 226
