ABSTRACT The problem of extending a given sampling design, when additional resources are available, is considered. Some existing methods of improving an initial sampling strategy, so that the use of the additional resouy'ces is justified, are critically reviewed. Admissibility of the existing strategies is questioned. In the process, improved strategies are suggested in various cases.
