Some remote areas, which don’t have access to electricity, need some innovations to be done for energy production. Although, we have plenty of non- renewable sources for electricity generation now, but, in future, only renewable sources of energy can help us out to harvest electricity from them. Alongwith, renewable sources of energy are also safer for humans and their environment. Idea of using renewable souces of earth like sun and plants together, to generate electricity, makes use of three diversified fields of planetary science, botany and electronics. In this paper, a step has been taken to generate electricity from plants because plants are present everywhere. A small voltage and current was sensed from the plant “Aloe Vera” which was further amplified to glow a LED. Glowing of LED showed the success of the idea of generation of electricity from plants. Not limited to LED, further amplication of voltage and current, can lead to lightening of a bulb. KeywordsPlant, Aloe Vera, electricity, amplification, LED. I. INTRODUCTION With rise in population of India, need of basic requirements, like food, home, water, money and electricity, is also growing. Therefore, if we focus only on necessity of electricity, with each passing day, stock of non-renewable sources is exhausting. In future, existence of renewable souces of energy can help us out to gather electricity from them. Idea of employing sources for energy production, which are easily obtainable and pocket friendly as well as eco friendly, is conveniently clever. Commercially, plants and their use will definitely give a drive for generation of electricity in our country 1 . Not limited to this, use of plants for electricity production creates a safeguard for our future and Earth by reducing green house effect 2,3 . Hence, shifting from non- renewable to renewable energy sources for electricity generation, provides beneficiary economic, alongwith environment friendly strategies 4 . In this research paper, it has been shown that Aloe Vera produces voltage which can be amplified to light a LED. Amongst various plants, here, Aloe Vera plant was used because it can be grown in deserts and withstand temperatures ranging from 104° F down to freezing temperatures 5 . Like all other green plants, it also harvest energy from sunlight and transform that energy into food and oxygen. This process is known as photosynthesis. During this process, transport of ions in the plant is occuring which produces ionic current in the plant. This ionic current gives rise to detection of small voltage when sensed using electrodes. Originally, electrodes work as transducer here, which reforms one form of energy into another. Electrodes senses ionic current and flips that into an electronic voltage which can be further amplified to light a LED or bulb. A general circuit diagram is shown in figure 1 to show connections of electrode, plant and amplication circuit. Figure 1: Connections of electrode, plant and amplication circuit II. METHODOLOGY A. Materials Aloe Vera Plant, Allpins as electrodes, multimeter, connecting wires, Chip AD-624, LED. B. Experiment 1. In order to check whether aloe vera can generate electricity or not, a number of allpins were injected into the leaves of aloe vera plant and were connected using conducting connecting wires in series. Ends of the wires were connected to a multimeter to check if voltage is being generated or not. Connections of allpins in plant with multimeter is shown in figure 2. A voltage of 0.9 mV and a current of 20mA was observed in the multimeter.
