It was released by Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee vide circular no. 2M(05 28/2008-592 dated 02-04-2009. The variety was notified by Central Sub-Committee on crop Standards, notification Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India vide notification No. S.O. 10-11/2010-SO-IV dated 10-10-2010. The variety Chandan has been recommended for cultivation in the states of Odisha and Aassam under irrigated conditions for boro (Dry) and wet season. The major objective of breeding was to develop a variety with in-built resistance to cold and heat tolerance with high yield potential for well managed favorable irrigated conditions of dry and wet season. The elite breeding line CR898-2 was selected from the existing variation observed in the population of Chaina mutant 45. CR 898-2 was entered into the coordinated trials under the name IET 17612 during wet season of 2002 in IVT under boro conditions. It was tested at multi locations for three years 2002-2006. The promising line gave higher yield over national, regional and local checks in regions III of the country. It recoded a mean yield of 6500 kg/ha with an yield advantage of 12.5% over Gautam (national check), 18.69%, over IR64 (regional check) and 24.4% over local check (Lalat). It showed significant superiority in yield to all the three checks in Odisha (7165kg/ha), at Gerua (6050) and Varanasi (6781 kg/ha). Chandan is a semi-dwarf (90 cm) genotype flowers in about 95 days and matures in about 125- 135 days. It is suitable for irrigated rice growing regions III of the country. It produces medium slender white grain broad thick and upright flag leaf, 350-380 panicles per m 2 , 8-10 tillers/plant with extra long panicle (>26 cm) with test weight of 22.2 gm. This variety is tolerant to leaf blast, stem borer and leaf folder. Chandan has shown moderate tolerant reaction to neck blast, brown spot, sheath blight and sheath rot as compared to the control varieties. The variety has unique quality that it tolerates both cold and heat at seedling and grain formation stage under boro conditions. The genotype produces thick straw, and possess easy thresh ability. It has high response to fertilizer application as compared to the checks used in trials. The variety has good hulling and milling/quality with moderate head rice recovery (HRR) of 78.5%. It has desirable cooking quality features as indicated by intermediate alkali spreading value (5.8), amylose content (23.92%) and medium gel consistency (GC) was absent. Chandan has given good yield performance in farmers’ field under participatory trials during the year 2005-2008 as compared to local check variety. Chandan can be cultivated under boro/rabi season for getting higher grain production. P. Sen, S. C. Subudhi, Sanjay Singh 1 , R. N. Mishra, N. Bhakta, G. J. N. Rao, S. K. Mohanty, S. K. It was identified and released by Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee held on 25-01-2012. The variety was notified by the Central Sub-Commuttee on Crop Standards, notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crop, Govt. of India vide notification No. S.O. No. 2126(E) dated 3 rd November 2012. Variety was recommended for cultivation in state of Odisha under deep water ecology. The variety Jayanti possesses tolerance to flood with good kneeing and elongation ability with high yield for deep water ecology. The elite breeding line CR 2080- 169-3-2-5-2 was developed from the cross Samson Polo/Jalnidhi. Samson Polo, is a traditional landraces from Guinea. It is flood and alkaline tolerant and having maturity of 172 days. The Jalnidhi was selection from local cultivar ”Goantis” Maturity 215-225 days. It is suitable for deepwater conditions (100-250 cm water depth), with a highest of about 180-300 cm. CR 2080-169-3-2-5-2 was entered into coordinated testing trials under the name of IET 20706 during wet season of 2008 in IVT under deep water conditions. It has out-performed, the national, regional and local check varieties pooled over three years of testing (2008-2010). The promising line exhibited stable yield performance in yield and other traits in the regions
