A diferencia de otras figuras de trueque, cambio refiere a una figura arquet´ ıpica de intercambio de productos agr´ ıcolas siguiendo normas consideradas heredadas por los ancestros. La teor´ ıa de valor planteada por los protagonistas constituye un aspecto fundamental para el entendimiento de las especificidades de esta transacci ´ on, y en particular su opera- tividad social. Este articulo muestra que el trueque no solo se desempe˜ na en el marco de relaciones sociales previas, sino que tambi´ en contribuye a la constituci ´ on de rela- ciones sociales especificas. En el cambio, estas relaciones est´ an concebidas en el registro del parentesco, se˜ nalando as´ ı una identidad cultural impl´ ıcita en un contexto ´ etnico sumamente confuso. En su conjunto, este art´ ıculo explora como grupos sociales se con- stituyen a trav´ es de intercambios econ ´ omicos destacando la importancia del trueque en este proceso. [Andes, Etnicidad, Identidad, Trueque, Valor] Abstract Drawing on ethnographic data from north Argentina, this text examines an Andean figure of barter called cambio. In contrast with other kinds of direct exchanges, cambio alludes to an archetypal transaction of agricultural products, framed by normative pre- scriptions that are said to be inherited from the ancestors. The examination of cambio shows that the theory of value posited by its partakers constitutes a fundamental feature for understanding barter peculiarities, and in particular, its social performativity. The article argues that barter is not simply embedded within previous social networks. It further participates in the constitution of new kinds of relationships.
