Abstract--- Technology has intervened in our every
day life and it has made its presence in education also.
Manual text material being replaced by digital one and
Information and Communication tools like Learning
Management System are trying to rennovate the
traditional education system but within such a framework
which are common and confirmed by all learning
technologies.Sharable Content Object Reference Model is
a name which have chances to becaome a universal
standard and is based on certain industry standards
which are being added year after year .Sharable Content
Object Reference Model made the policy how online
content developedfor one system is made available for
sharing purpose on another system without being created
from scratch. Its main objective is to make reusability ,
ease of access and plug-play interoperability for the web
based learning material or content. The objective of
Sharable Content Object Reference Model is to ensure
high quality in education as well as in training which is
suitable to the learner’s need and deliver it with
effectiveness. It has certain limitations which need to be
addressed to make it withstand with technological
advancements, and by the time these limitations would be
minimized .This paper presents Benefits, Working and
Limitations of one the most popular standard in web
content creation.

I. INTRODUCTION
CORM: Sharable Content Object Reference Model
defines a particular way of developing Learning
Management Systems and allows Online Course Content
to share information with different SCORM compliance
LMS’s [1].[2].Defines SCROM as a set of industrial
technical standards and specifications for software
products to support E-learning (e.g. LMS) , moreover its
an opportunity to check its use and significance for E-
learning professionals
ADL Consortium.

SCORM was an initiative by the government of US in
1997to develop a standard whose main Objective is to
produce course content (SCO’s or shareable content
Object) for USArmy, which is would work on any LMS
and should be reusable, thus Eliminating its
redevelopment for multiple systems. The Novel idea was
given by DOD, USA which specified that all of its
content or proposals to Army must be delivered via
SCORM. Advance Distributed Learning (ADL) Co-Labs
were behind the development of SCORM standards [3].
ADL provides access to quality education and
training, delivered with cost effectiveness and fitted to
individual needs, anywhere, anytime. The ADL itself is
based on CORDRA technology, which stores metadata
and objects, unlikeGoogle, which doesn’t store objects,
but metadata only as Google provide references during
searching not objects.
SCORM
Basically SCORM is Shareable Content + Object +
Reference Model. Shareable content means that the
content prepares using specifications and standards
should be sharable on other LMS or systems. The object
can be anything (topic, chapters, lessons, units) need to be
shared keeping in view Reference model (the ideas
borrowed from other models) which is to be followed. So
the main task is to prepare a SCO (shareable Content
Object).
SCO
There is no particular size defined for an SCO but the
object should be granular. The size of SCO could range
from a single Image, a sentence, a paragraph, chapter, or
an entire unit (see Fig 1.)
