1 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Indonesia is one of the countries has many cultures. Cultural diversity in Indonesia does not make the society divided, the diffrences make Indonesia more colorful and every culture has its own unique that has an icon in each region in Indonesia. Many countries already know about Indonesia because of culture. A popularity of the culture of Indonesia makes many tourists come to Indonesia for studying about the culture. Through culture we can show to other countries another wealth of Indonesia and give them a proof that Indonesia is really rich country. Etymologically the term derives from Latin litaritura/litteratura "writing formed with letters", although some definitions include spoken or sung texts. More restrictively, it is writing that possesses literary merit, and language that foregrounds literariness, as opposed to ordinary language. Literature can be classified according to whether it is fiction or non-fiction and whether it is poetry or prose, it can be further distinguished according to major forms such as the novel, short story or drama and works are often categorised according to historical periods or their adherence to certain aesthetic features or expectations (genre).
